Recently I was involved in a fantastic project. The ANZ bank celebrated its 25th annivesary sponsoring the Sydney Mardi Gras by transforming an entire bank branch on Oxford Street into a baroque-inspired GAY-NZ. I was part of a team of fantastic painters - Andrea Davies, Bill Undery, Mark Dickson, Colin Richards, Jo Allsop and Jo Breneger. Click and check out the link to the ANZ Twitter account which shows how it all came to be...https://twitter.com/ANZ_AU/status/701992851077337088
Vanitas (Skull with dragonfly) is on its way to Coffs Harbour to hang as a Finalist in this years Eutick Still Life Memorial Award. Oil on Linen. 50x70cm. Opening night Nov 6th at The Coffs Harbour Regional Art Gallery. Judged this year by John McDonald. I wish it and all the finalist paintings good luck! Such an honour to be a part of such a wonderful exhibition of artists.
Vanitas (Skull with Dragonfly) celebrates the technical and creative brilliance of the 17th century Dutch Master painters. I wished pay homage to that period of masterful painting. To even try and create an illusion that the picture was painted centuries ago. The true date of it however is revealed through the subtle inclusion of contemporary objects. Boots of Spanish Leather. Oil on board, 45x60cm
This picture has been selected as finalist for the Clifton Art Prize, Sydney. One of 10 finalists. Opening Nov 18th in Sydney. I am so happy that they are getting some wall time, This painting is a dedication to hard work and loving things for their imperfections, as this is what makes them unique. These boots were my house mates, a freelance curator in Sydney. She wore them everyday, mending their broken soles with tape, until they couldnt walk any further. These boots with their broken tape, scuffed leather and paint stains were a still life waiting to happen. I like to thing of the painting as a contemporary momento mori Big Smiles on my face. Today I found out I have the honour of being awarded the Packer's Choice for this years Nude&Naked exhibItion at the Manning Regional Art Gallery, Taree. I am humbled, and grateful to the support of the staff who put on such a wonderful exhibition.
Im thrilled to post that my artwork 'Nude Study on Artists own palette' a.k.a 'A great pair of legs' has been accepted as a finalist in The Manning Art Prize 'Nude or Naked' Exhibition. Judged this year by John McDonald.
